Because it's bad. I think a lot of the voices are bad, a lot of the acting is bad, the dialog is unnaturally written, there are numerous pronunciation mistakes, the sound mixing isn't great a lot of the time...

I'm happy for everyone who enjoys it, but it is not for me.

I think it's alright enough, but it is a somewhat bland and uninspired effort, especially compared to the heavily flawed but very memorable DiC dub. There are some standout performances though, like Stephanie Sheh as Usagi, Amanda Miller as Makoto, Cindy Robinson as Queen Beryl, etc.

not everything appeals to everyone, whether it's issues within the dub itself due to things such is the acting being sub par or choosing the wrong actor for a character, Shingo comes to mind here, sounds too old in my opinion

other reasons stem from feeling the dic/cloverway dub was abandoned and replaced with this one and those people hate viz for this

I like viz but it's nowhere near as good as the Japanese sub in my opinion and that's the takeaway it's opinions if you like Viz enjoy it
I like it but I don't deny it's not perfect but as far as what we got in terms of English dubs for sailor moon this is the best we got right now in terms of being close to the Japanese script

It's just really boring in my opinion. I think the dub scripts are pretty awkward and the voice direction the actors are given must not be very good because everyone sounds kinda the same and the performances they give are extremely subdued. I never really liked Stephanie Sheh as Usagi especially shes a huge miscast in my opinion.

There are different people with different opinions. While I find some of the claims against it just nostalgia speaking and nitpicky, I have to agree with some of the criticism . The sound mixing issues are jarring, some voices are really similar and Shingo's voice is even more out of place than Linda Balentine. The script is at times a bit awkward and some attempts at making it correspond to modern sensibilities felt a bit hypocritical when they started promising a faithful adaptation. Some jokes could have been handled much better. The cast individually so I think itgas more to do with art direction but the performances are too safe and a bit too standart.
All this aside I find the dub servicable and completely fine. A lot of countries were forced to re-use their old dubs and many can only dream to watch the show in their own language. While it is not the greatest dub it is better than many, like the new Evangelion dub, which is in a league of its own when it comes to modern dub problems. So it could have been better but it could have a lot worse.

I'm fine with the Viz dub. It's something new for me to watch, considering I've seen the sub hundreds of times, and its faithful English adaptation intrigues me.

I think it's leagues better than the DiC/Cloverway dub but I still vastly prefer the original Japanese. At least the translation is faithful and the storyline remains intact, and the voice acting, while a bit flat, isn't as cheesy or overacted. I know a lot of people were partial to a lot of the DiC voices, but I can't really stand any of them except for Tracey Moore's Serena (best Sailor Moon after Kotono Mitsuishi) and maybe Katie Griffin's Raye.

I also think it's so amazing that we have a legit Stars dub now, I honestly thought the day would never come.

The best way I could describe the Viz dub is like a bland chicken cutlet. It serves it's purpose but it lacks flavor. The Dic dub would probably be more of a yummy processed chicken nugget.
I understand a lot of people have fondness towards the DiC dub, but I tend to think it's mainly nostalgia speaking... I understand as I have some nostalgic feelings towards the DiC/CWI dub too, it was how I first discovered Sailor Moon at 8 years old, but overall I just can't get past its bastardizations of the original storyline, such as the censorship of Haruka and Michiru's relationship and the editing of episodes 45/46. The Viz dub isn't without flaws, but at the very least it retains the show's original storyline... However, I feel I should add I'm just not a big fan of dubs in general. I prefer subs all the way, with the exception of maybe the Cowboy Bebop dub...

Well in general the best experience is to watch a show/film in the original language. Sadly the subtitles for Sailor Moon as well as Crystal were not that great either at least from what I have seen. In general I watch shows subbed. If it is something that is more of a comedy or something in the background I would watch it dubbed. As for the DiC dub I have said it before I do not consider it a dub at all as it does little to no actual translation. It is great, very fun to watch and quite entertaining, but it is not the same show anymore.

P. S: Another reason I find the dub not enjoyable - Minako's voice makes me cringe. It did with the valley accent in the old dub, but that was intentional there.

Well, yout kinda blaming the wrong people .Its not like they had much of a choice in the begin with. As for the Vizdub,I don't hate it but its just bland .Its good for toes who want a more faithful adaption.

It's really up to interpretation I imagine manga fans feel like the anime dumbs the series down as much as the original dub did the subs. I see the Dic dub as a very successful adaptation that stands on it 's own.

As others have already said, the voices of the Viz dub all sound samey and wrong, which added to the nostalgia I get from the DiC dub (only seen the first handful of episodes from Cloverway's dub of S) something that I don't need replacing by what may appear on surface to be "better".

I don't hate the Viz dub.I just think it was kind of unnecessary to have in 90s anime. For one thing, with modern sound quality to be in a series that's 20+ years old just doesn't sound right. I do appreciate Viz bringing Sailor Moon back but the truth is...I didn't really like how manufactured and stiff the characters sounded, compared to the DiC/CWi, where they each sounded like their characters. However, in Crystal, they actually sounded fine because it's a newer adaption, so fresh animation and sound quality.
And who cares if I'm blinded by nostaglia. Without the old dub, I wouldn't be long-term fan I am today

Yeah I think it was a mistake to use the same cast for both the original series and crystal when the Japanese recast all the roles save for Usagi. Even though I didn't love Crystal I still found it much easier to watch dubbed. I think the cast was better suited to their roles in Crystal than the OG series and the direction they were given felt like more right as well.

It's boring and very forgettable. So far there has only been one episode I feel I can watch on repeat because it feels like they actually put effort into it. Wasn't it said somewhere they do everything in one take? It's no wonder the delivery falls flat every time..

I know the original dub generally only did one take due to time and budget constraints; I haven't heard that that's the case for the Viz dub as well. Still, if the original dub cast could manage to emote properly while basically doing cold reads, there's really no excuse for the Viz dub cast to sound so bland. Like you said, their dub is very boring and forgettable. The original dub has been out of print and off the air for around fifteen years now but people still remember it, quote it, reference it, etc. It has continued to have a tangible impact. We'll see how many people still remember and reference the Viz dub fifteen years after it goes out of print, which may very well be within the next year.

I will always how much people care about dubs. They are just that. It is not like they created the show. Most anime fans who care of anime enough to talk about it probably would never any dub, no matter how good or bad. But these season 1 collector edition dvds by Viz will stay in history. I cannot believe Toei didn't stop the deal the moment Viz altered masters to make them loog terrible and posted them as their source
