Why wasn’t there any tension between Mako and Usagi for Motoki like there was between Rei and Usagi for Mamoru?

Since they both liked Motoki and Usagi really used to like him, you’d think that there’d be at least a little bit of tension. Instead, they were pretty cordial and congenial towards each other on their mission to ask him out.

We know that it was the opposite when it came to Usagi and Rei with Mamoru. At first their tension was silly and immature due to Usagi’s jealousy over them and Rei just rubbing it in that she got an attractive date, but it then escalated into a more serious tension after the reveal.

Also I think for Usagi her relationship with Mamoru grew and she began to realize she loved him and also Motoki actually had Reika at the time and obviously they were more in love then either Mamoru or Rei were with each other.

Poor writing.

Rei and Usagi should never ever have competed or fought for Mamoru. Similarly, Mamoru shouldn’t have ever broken up with Usagi. It just doesn’t make any sense,

The 90’s anime has its moments, but it also has its flaws.

Because Rei actually dated Mamoru (or at least she thought she did). Plus it's Usagi and Rei, there's always gonna be more tension between them by default.

Because at that moment, they have a common "enemy," Reika.

If they're fighting each other, then neither of them would get Motoki. They have to work together so at least one of them has a shot.

They could fight after him after Reika was out of the way.

If that were the case, then why was Usagi willing to give up on him so easily after Reika was leaving at the airport? Yes, Usagi got moved by Motoki and Reika’s love, but she still wanted to give up on him after succeeding in making her leave and “getting out of their way” to give them a chance to get Motoki to change his mind about them.

Usagi didn’t even try to set up Mako with someone else knowing she liked someone else like she did with Rei and Yuichiro.

Mako, on the other hand, still wanted to go after him, which makes Usagi change her mind again. However, even in the end, there wasn’t really tension made between them even though they were still going after the same guy and despite Usagi liking him a lot. Yet, there was at least two different types of tension between her and Rei when it came to Mamoru despite most people believing she didn’t like him at the time.

Seriously, when did Rei and Usagi fight for Mamoru at all?

Rei and Usagi were picking each other but it got nothing to do with Mamoru, Usagi hates Mamoru when Rei was dating him. And when they form the relationship, Rei immediately quits.

There is no tension between them at all.

Tension doesn’t always necessarily mean you’re fighting over someone, but it can lead to some awkward or tense moments. Of course those moments didn’t happen between Rei and Usagi until after the reveal. Before that, it was mostly silly with Usagi doing the “jealous woman/girl being a stalker” thing and Rei rubbing it in Usagi’s face that she’s dating Mamoru who could possibly be TM ( as Rei pointed out). They then started to bicker about it. Then we get that small moment where Usagi scowls upon hearing Rei going on a date with obviously Mamoru in I believe episode 31. Additionally, there was that episode where she hit herself in the head for daring to find Mamoru attractive because she imagined Rei being pissed about it. While yes, Rei and Usagi always had a some tension prior to this subplot, it doesn’t mean her dating Mamoru didn’t elevate it.

Like I said before, it was silly at first, but after the reveal is when there was a more serious tension. Either way, Mako and Usagi didn’t have any I guess since their feelings for Motoki were shallow while both Rei’s and Usagi’s for Mamoru were on a more serious level.

Again Usagi was not into Mamoru at all when Rei dates him, so it has nothing to do with bringing any tension. They just get jealous over each other for having a date but it's all. Nothing big.

Usagi and Rei were picking on each other simply because they both got temper and flaw at first. But at the same time they were also the closest friends so they could go wild on each other. While Makoto and Usagi also being good friends, it's not that close so they have to be pleasant on each other.

There was no serious tension at all. Usagi and Rei are super close friends so they bicker each other like that, it's totally the opposite.

That would be believable if Usagi didn’t ask herself “What are they flirting about over there” when spying on their date. Not to mention, Usagi also tells Ami that she “couldn’t leave those two alone” after she was down spying. That doesn’t seem like it’s just about Rei having a date.

Like I said before, I realize that Rei and Usagi have always had this tension, but that doesn’t mean the Rei-Mamoru subplot didn’t elevate it. Maybe not much, especially before the reveal, but still doesn’t mean there wasn’t any.

Mako and Usagi May not have been as close as Rei and Usagi, but I did still kind of found it weird how Usagi was super okay with Mako getting a shot with him when she was kind of crazy about him (although her crush on him did seem pretty shallow).

Usagi did the same thing when she tried to mess up Yuichiro with Rei together.

She was like that on Rei&Mamoru because she thought it was interesting and she really likes Rei, that's simply how Usagi behaves. You can see how close she is with Rei during important moments.

Usagi didn’t try to mess up Rei and Yuichiro. She was spying on them and meddling in their business to try to get them together, whereas with Rei and Mamoru, she was stalking them for her feelings of not wanting to leave them alone together and wanted to hear what they were talking about or in her words “flirting” about. She wouldn’t say those things if she just interested in the date itself.

I am aware of how close Usagi and Rei are. This subplot even helped their friendship grow stronger due to that them getting over that tension and putting their friendship first.

Remember that later Episode when ::tuxspeedmask: stayed at the Shrine? Who was the jealous one? Correct, it was :usagi:, yelling at :rei: for accidentally seeing ::tuxspeedmask: nekkid. :mischief:
Was the episode in question from SuperS? The one where Usagi dressed as a ninja?

I believe it’s an episode from the first season. Mamoru becomes evil, Usagi cries, and during a moment of tension Rei tells Usagi to toughen up and fight to get Mamoru back—saying she gave up on Mamoru for Usagi.
