I actually like this, despite a certain lack of frames. The choreography is interesting and real-time attacks aren't something SM productions offer very often.
This Powerpoint team (act 13, 19) is actually one of the teams that followed the design very neatly. The problem is that there are so little animation (Moon stick twirling scene), and they used a lot of shadows and creepy expression (a lot of close up with shadows, or a totally black figure).

This reminded me of me calling Eternal "powerpointy" here before its actual full release and people getting mad at me. Was I the one to coin this term here regarding animation?

Not very original, but for me, it was indeed the tragic S1-2 animation. I'm not asking for animation with lot of movements and characters jumping everywhere but at least still shot need to be nicely done. Like, if you look at Itoh's episode, she doesn't make them move a lot but still shots are absolutely beautiful and that's enough for me.
This is the main difference with US animation where characters need to move every second even if it's totally useless to the scene.

We all like to hate on Crystal, but I still enjoy it and have watched seasons 1-3 like 4 times each...so yeah, I'm kind of a hypocrite. I am just mad because it could have been so much more.
I dropped it the moment Jadeite didn't die burning alive in the third episode. I was pretty much done by that point. In retrospect, it's no wonder I kind of shut off from SM in general after that.

That being said, I started my rewatch of Crystal. It's still an absolutely embarrassing trashfire, but I WILL soldier through and I WILL watch Season 3. Now that looks pretty promising.
Can't wait to be disappointed, again.

uh chile i gave up on the 90’s anime when the second episode wasnt anything like the second act from the manga and still watched the whole 200 episodes
You are overreacting. Chiaki Kon wasnt even any better than the old director, I bet Toei just told her to follow the manga 1:1 and then she decided to mix it with some 90’s copypaste animations and they were happy.
She cant really give the important scenes the right atmosphere (except for a very few moments, but I guess thats animators faults) and most of the time the scenes have fast cuts and feels rushed, like they are running out of time to fit the whole long act in one episode.
It wasnt better on Eternal, where Usagi/Sailor Moon gets the worse animated and atmospheric scenes, everything pops from one second to another.
At least act 5 and part of the act 21/25 looks good compared to season 3 where most of the season has this act 26 quality animation and they never fixed anything for the bluray

worst thing Crystal did was its production. Toei doesnt care about Sailor Moon

Nope. The term was used since act 13. The episode was a BIG scandal on Niconico, not act 12 in which 4 Shitennous were killed.

It gets better with Season 2 especially with :mako:'s episode. Season 1 just sucks.

This is a very polarizing season. Personally I like it and it actually compliments what's missing in the 90s especially Season 3's last 2 or 3 episodes. It's like watching an OVA.

Jupitewr one looks great after the blu ray upgrade, but that flop near the end...

100% agree. If you look at the 90's closely, you'll realise it hardly has animation. However, it has credit because the directors made a lot of camera movements. That's why Crystal S3 and Eternal seem better than the first two seasons.

I remember that when S3 came out, it was either a love or hate reaction to it, hence why I didn't bother. But I then read around that Chiaki Kon made certain decisions, such as replacing the transformation sequences with proper 2D ones, and the more PreCure-type artstyle, that caught my attention last year.

I'm cautious about the whole thing, either way. Can't wait to be disappointed again.
