I'm curious to know everyone's first reaction to the new outer senshi. Mine was way back in 1995, I was in grade 5 and my friend and I couldn't get enough of Sailor Moon airing on YTV. We were told that Chinatown in Toronto had a lot of Sailor Moon merchandise so I had got my mother to drive us so that we could get some stuff. This was around the time the S season was airing in Japan so there was a ton of stuff there from that season.

We were looking at some Sailor Moon tshirts and I noticed two new characters in the background. I think at this time YTV had skipped the Ail and An arc of R and went right into the Black Moon arc so we were a little confuzed as to what was going on in the show but we nearly had heart attacks after seeing all this merchandise with her Sailor "Scouts". We didn't know what planets they were from... I vaugely remember thinking Uranus might be Saturn. I had bought two action figures of Neptune and Uranus and had gone home hoping soon they would appear on YTV to save the day. Little did I know that it would be a long while until that happened.

I soon got the internet at home and came to see how horrible the dub version was. Around grade 7 was when Stars aired for me and some girls had been collecting Sailor Moon cards and had some of the starlights. I remember not thinking much of them, probably cuz they looked so skanky.

I knew about the outers like right away. Since my friend had this HUGE book she made of Sailor Moon. Since I was watching a mix of original and R I thought that Uranus, Neptune, and Saturn got their sticks from Luna ^_^'

I actually made fun of the concept. In high school, I had a few friends, one in particular, who watched the first and second season with me. Thinking there were no other seasons at that point, we would joke around about there being a "sailor neptune" and a "sailor uranus" like there weren't either one.

After that, I got a slap in the face that, duh, they actually exist. At first, I was a little skeptical, but I (of course) loved Haruka/Uranus. I thought they were a little rude, but eventually, I really liked them after they were cool with the inners.

Hmm, well I think I might've had my own idea what outers would be like before finally seeing them. I was probably thinking "Finally!" But I can't much remember what I thought of them as characters. I do remember really liking the Space Sword, and talking with friends on the playground about which of the talismans we would get. (He very kindly let me have the space sword even though it was his favorite too. ^_^' )

I was never surprised at their existence. I mean, if they're going to do the inner planets, then the outers can't be far behind. The Starlights were a surprise though.

That is the weird thing.

Jupiter is not considered an inner planet. Which is funny cause she is an inner senshi.

Indeed it is. I guess Naoko felt that having 5 senshi was necessary, and played with the rules a bit.

When I was a kid, I used to look up Sailor Moon pictures online (or have my mom do it, since I wasn't very internet-savvy back then). When I saw pictures of Neptune, Uranus, and Pluto I was like, "Who are these girls? How come we haven't seen them?" And at one point decided that Pluto was my favorite. ^_^'

YEARS later, my first S episode was when all three of them transformed in front of Mamoru and told them who they were and why they don't work with the Inners (sadly, that's all I can remember of that episode). Just watching their transformations made me go, "THEY'RE SO COOL!!!" and go into fanboy mode.

I'd only ever seen episodes from the first two seasons when my mom brought home these Sailor Moon figurines, two of which I'd never seen before (Uranus and Neptune). That was when I first became aware that there was something else I didn't know. But I did remember that last "preview" episode at the end of R which showed to figures in the trees, and I though that must be them.

When I got on the internet the first thing I started searching for was Sailor Moon. Because the sites were in English, many of them knew little more than I did about Sailor Moon at that point. But then I started to get curious and typed in "Sailor + planet" for the remaining planets (excluding Pluto), and that's how I found out about the rest of them.

Saturn became an immediate favorite because she was so unique. I thought she might even be fan art at first. This was the first image I ever saw of her. I pretty much thought all four of them were so cool though, simply because I knew so little about them.

You can imagine my shock and delight when I discovered Sailor Galaxia.

While i don't remember my reaction to them when the second half of R & all of S premiered on Toonami, i do remember where i first saw them and my reaction to that. It was on an issue of GameFan magazine that had 2 pages promoting the SuperS video game for the Saturn & PlayStation (i forgot which issue but it was released in around 95/96 when the series was still airing on WPIX-WB11 over here). It was both shocking and exciting to see new senshi in the screenshots and to see that Chibiusa became one herself as well.

2019 EDIT: Found scans of that magazine issue a few weeks ago, see here or here.

I remember first discovering the outers via the internet. Since there was an air of mystery surrounding the S season at the time, there was not a lot of information about them. The S movie was my first VHS tape I ordered through VKLL - I specifically ordered the movie just to see the outers for the first time. However, when I eventually ordered and watched the S episodes, I finally understood their characters and how they fit within the Sailor Moon universe.

well lets start with pluto in R, to put it simply, I thought "great a new sailor scout" [it was the dub ] ^^ as for Uranus & Neptune in episode 89 I thought of them mysterious new scouts [I'm using dub titles because I first saw them in the dub] anyways when S came on toonami and I got to see them better, I thought Haruka/amara was badass and Michiru/michelle was awesome, also when pluto appeared in S she became my favorite outer and I wasn't sure what to think of Hotaru ^^ so thats my first impression.
when I first discovered Haruka and Michiru weren't cousins I was relieved because I thought that hand stuff was weird, and I began to like them better after that and yes I found that out on the internet in 2003, before I saw the original S.

I was also one of the individuals that found out about their existence through the Internet, say around 1999 and 2000. I was shocked that a girl was dressed in boys clothing, acted like a boy and was being all touchy touchy with another girl. I rejected that idea until I saw the dubbed version on Toonami during the Summer of 2000 and to my relief, found out they were actually "cousins". Of course, I was 10, being taught homophobia and a very ignorant little prick. Most likely that and coming terms with my sexuality may have been one reason I resented the characters. Now I admire them. To lesbian soldiers kicking ass.

Well, I didn't see all of the DiC dub back during its first run, so i didn't know about Pluto. Nor did I see the Cloverway dub either, as my interest in Sailor Moon had kinda died out by then.

In fact, I didn't know about any other Sailor Senshi existing in Sailor Moon aside from the original five... until I saw a certain DVD of the DiC R dub sitting on a shelf in a Blockbuster Video store. This DVD had, on its cover, a image of Sailor Chibi Moon and my mind was going, "Huh? Since when was Rini a Sailor Cookie? Wasn't she just some annoying little girl that they had to protect for some reason?" (again, I hadn't watched all of the R dub and didn't know of Chibiusa's true relation to Usagi). Then I got thinking, "If she is one, would she be something like a 'Sailor Saturn' or whatever?" not knowing of the existence of Hotaru at the time. And being the guy who no longer had much of an interest in Sailor Moon that I was, I left that DVD where it was, without looking into it any further.

Some time later, I was looking on the internet for Digimon websites and came across a few sites that didn't just have Digimon info, but also had info on the many popular English dub anime at the time, Sailor Moon included. So I figured, "Well, I did used to watch this, might as well check it out and see what I can remember from it." Looking at the Sailor Moon info, I not only found out stuff I missed from watching the DiC dub, but also stuff about S and SuperS (there wasn't Sailor Stars info, as it wasn't dubbed). It was around this time I learned of the Outers' existence and who Chibiusa/Rini really was: Usagi's/Serena's future daughter and Sailor Chibi Moon/Sailor Mini Moon.

As for Sailor Stars, I'd find out more about that series (as well as even more info on the previous four) from tv.com's former site TV Tome. And even later on I'd learn even more stuff when I discovered Wikipedia.

After looking through all this stuff and learning of the Outers' existence, what was my reaction to it? I guess it was something like, "Hmm, okay so the series actually kept going and they made these new characters too. I guess that makes sense. Now that I think about it, since they made cookies of the first few planets, it was probably inevitable that they were gonna make ones of the rest of the planets too."

Though, I wouldn't fully get back into Sailor Moon and actually see any of the Outers in action until recently.

When I saw the chapter 92 I was 9 years old and I didn't realize that haruka and michiru are lovers :D
I saw the sacrifice of Michiru in chapter 110, the comments between they , I mean "-Are you jealous.. -Maybe"
And the super know "hands" scene, I heard Michiru said "I love you hands" but even that I didn't realize

Regardless I consider they so cool and mature and I was like Usagi, I was admiring Michiru ...

Pluto was so serious and sad for me.. so, never attracted much attention to me

Saturn was my mirror, when I was 9 years old I was so quiet and shy... coincidentally we have the same zodiac sign :D and I was so skinny and I had the same haircut :D I loved her personality

I must admit I wasn't at all wild about Neptune (too "Classy") or Uranus (too confrontational) when I first got to see them in the dub of the "S" anime season! :?
On the other hand, I "took to" Pluto and Saturn instantly!
I did very much miss seeing the Outer Senshi in the SuperS anime season, however. (Stupid TOEI! Couldn't you figure SOME way to get them in a few episodes in the second half of the season?) :x

I actually found out who they were when I ordered the playstation game from a hobby site. lol

I got that and they sent me a pack of poker cards, which I opened first..I was like..woah, who are they?

Than, since my playstation wasn't converted yet, I just look at the instructions, and sure enough I soon had names to go with the faces, and hoped I'd get to see them in the anime someday.

I agree that what we were shown in the series doesn't make it very obvious, especially if you watch it for the first time and don't have any knowledge about the series. After I watched most of S season, I still didn't figure out they were lesbians until I have read about it on the Internet.
