“Mamo-chan” in English...apparently this is a Persona dub, now lol
Cool trailer though. Fairly excited. I guess if they get the whole Crystal eventually, some countries like France will have to redub certain stuff, as in France they called Mamoru Endy. But it is reallt a small grape. I will watch it in Japanese anyway. They did gfix some color mistakes but nothing major.

Nice to see they have corrected a couple of the mistakes. It’s not exactly a visual overhaul like the season 1 corrections were (Not that Eternal needs that level of clean up) but it’s nice that they fixed some bits here and there. Would’ve been nice for them to fix some of the more off model parts, but we take what we can get, I guess.

The ‘Mamo chan’ parts are a little cringe. I don’t think a Japanese person with little English ability should really interfere with how the dubbing is handled, though. If there were big cuts or changes I could understand why she would want to be involved but honorifics never sound natural in English. Doesn’t really matter to me though as I’m not gonna watch the dub outside of maybe curiosity.

She might be pretty obsessed w/ that bit, like almost a personal thing, perhaps. XD

I hope it is just Mamo-chan and Mako-chan and not Usagi-chan, Rei-chan, etc. I saw a lot of dubs saving some honorifics including chan. I hope it is not the whole set of them, but then again I am watching in Japanese and probably German, because I love the voices.

I think Takeuchi might only be obsessed w/ "Mamo-chan" - hope I'm right. lol

They have fixed those frames of the final Moon scene where her forehead was yellow… thank god.

Gotta say that “ technically speaking “ the new scenes shown are not as good looking as I expected. You can see some that are pretty stiff with basic drawing but well… it is what it is.
Idk it’s back and forth. Some moments look amazing others are like any tv anime. In general I wish this was the standard for the series.

Saturn’s awakening looks beautiful, Mars Scene looks beautiful, the moment when Nehelania traps usagi looks great!

not trying to start again a fight with you here but :
What did you expect exactly ? because since day one you are just complaining about the quality of the movies. you thought they were going to redraw both movies for Netflix? I mean it’s clear to this point that you don’t like the movies. Or did you change your mind since ? I don’t get it.

Not even gonna bother answering you cause you clearly never ( want to ) remember the good things people say in this forum ( Just take time to read all comments, you have tons of mine saying good things about these movies ) and you are always just bashing people who say something negative about Sailor Moon so why bothering starting a debate with someone who just have selective memory and selects the information you want to say with your already prejudice view of someone?

If you read carefully you will see that I say: “ new scenes never shown dont look as good as I thought they would look “ which MEANS that I believe that are other scenes from the movies that look good ( said in this thread tons of times the ones I think look great ) and these ones dont reach the same level as those others. Simple as that.

I'm sure that's an in between frame (we still got bad key frames through the whole seasons tho)
It was staying on screen for long enough to see it, without going frame by frame. Crystal had at times batter inbetween frames compared to pretty bad key frames. This one was an inbetween for sure, but quite visible one...

Let's hope Netflix is going to support the production of Stars. I have the feeling that Eternal received a lot of love from the people who worked on it, but it also seems some of the staff members are not very experienced yet and there's a lack of time to let the chief animation director correct all the flaws. I pray the next project will have a unified look and that the chief animation director will have have enough time to be a perfectionist (and receive a high paycheck).

I saw in the trailer a scene where the Outers appear and operate a defensive attack with their talismans. While this is not badly executed, it's a bit underwhelming. The colorful energy beams don't glow as they could. By darkening the background for a glimpse would make look this much more impactful. I learned noticing such animation details from the 90s anime and it's full of those optical little tricks/illusions that make the anime pop so much. Those animation tricks that don't require much time and work and are very effective. I don't know if this knowledge got lost/forgotten with the shift to computer animation in the early 2000s...Crysternal is definitely lacking this kind of stuff.

One thing that slightly annoys me but is not a huge issue at all is the way Mars says her attack. I've been hating how fast she says it since I watched the clip in Japanese and would prefer her to have a pause in between Flame and Sniper.

I'm in the minority and this is just my opinion but I really am not too fond of Usagi's English VA. Her voice sounds a bit forced a little but I can deal with it after I watch the Japanese version first. I've never jumped for joy with the new English voices but some of them sound okay, like Jupiter's VA sounds cool.

In any case, the reception for this has been quite huge. Lots of people are talking about and interestingly a lot of people didn't even know Sailor Moon was "back" while other people who never even heard of it seem interested. It's really exciting.

I also saw mention of someone wondering why Toei didn't use some new type of filter for the Sailor Moon movies they use for their other titles.

All of this talk of people not even knowing Sailor Moon was on the air again is just one more sign of how fumbled this entire project has been by Toei. I guess they really don't care about fans outside of Japan, but Viz did more to promote the redub of the original anime than anyone's done for Crystal/Eternal in the States. Well, better late than never, I guess. :|

I actually like the voice of Mars saying 'Flame Sniper' better in the new version than the 90s - but I agree, her timing/delivery could be better.

I'm also not a fan of Usagi's VA. It's pretty typical of modern anime dubs, though. I don't know if the dub studio Netflix brought on did it any differently, but it also seems that they were pretty rushed in the 90s dub to get everything done (case in point: every standard attack in the Viz dub gets the exact same audio recording of them saying the attack name). Hopefully Eternal was handled a little better.

What kind of filter?

It was some kind of filter that made the lines thicker or something I saw them talking about. They used it in DBZ and One Piece or something, maybe even Pretty Cure, but I didn't see PC listed but saw it was some kind of filter they were using for darker lines or something like that.

That's why I think you should merge the 2 threads instead. Sometimes it's hard to tell which thread you should write in, or it's easy to make mistake. 8)
That's what I proposed on that other thread, actually, but then another forum member suggested a division of functions between the two threads & I think it could work w/ a modification of the title of the other thread to stress its focus on international dubs/translation, which I did after no one objected. So let's see for a while whether that really works - if not, I'll go w/ my original proposal. :)
